One of the reasons that people come to Lake Nolin is actually not Lake Nolin. Mammoth Cave National Park is only a short drive from Lake Nolin.
If you have not been before, just know that this is Kentucky’s only National Park, and this is one of the biggest Karst regions on this planet. Mammoth Cave is truly a natural wonder to behold. Be sure to book reservations ahead of time because it can sell our in the summers.
Near Mammoth Cave, there are several other family attractions, including Dinosaur World.


If you’ve ever wondered about the Amish, Lake Nolin is also a place where you can find the Amish. Check out Detweiler’s Country Store here. If you’re feeling really adventurous, go on down to Munfordville, which is not that far away, and go to the AM Amish Wholesale Grocery Store. I believe they still speak old German there.
While there are multiple dock sites on Lake Nolin, the easiest one for this writer to use to get his boat in the water and take it out is easily Wax Marina, which also has a shop where you can buy items, including lunch.
There’s a restaurant just up the hill, as well. Here’s the website for that restaurant, called Flavor Queen’s Kitchen.
Only professional drivers should attempt to load and unload a boat at Ponderosa. In my opinion, Ponderosa has a decent area for mu, and it also has a marina and a fun place to eat there, as well.
While you cannot use our dock, you can go to one of the marinas and rent a boat. The Army Corps of Engineers regulations does not allow guests to use any owner docks. We have a newly constructed fire pit in the back, which is big enough for several people to enjoy.
